This paper/lecture will examine the history of the excavation of Tell Hesban focusing on the purpose of the project. A season by season evaluation of the results and their interpretation will be presented with special emphasis on the proposed biblical and historical connections. An attempt will be made to understand the projects in its historical framework as far as the development of archaeological methodologies are concerned. Finally an evaluation of the project’s impact on further archaeological field work in Jordan will be assessed.
