EES-PEF SEMINAR POSTER 2015.pdf

Summary
Events during the reign of Shoshenq I remain hotly debated in academia, but recent
discoveries in the Levant may shed new light on this little understood Pharaoh’s
appearance in Biblical history. Founder of the 22nd Dynasty and of Libyan origin,
according to Manetho his ancestors established themselves at Bubastis in the eastern
Delta. After consolidating his control of Egypt by establishing a series of vassal
rulers throughout the Two Lands, Shoshenq turned his attention to the eastern
Mediterranean, possibly launching a raid north to Biblical Judah. In this seminar The
Egypt Exploration Society and the Palestine Exploration Fund welcome two
of the leading experts in this turbulent period of Egyptian history to present the
reign of Shoshenq and the evidence for his influence in the eastern Mediterranean.
