Home Background Current Research Lecture Programme Events Publications Features Library Past Projects Famous People Collections Executive Committee Joining the Fund Grants Links Contact Us	Jerusalem in Original Photographs 1850-1920 More than 200 early photographs, many previously unpublished, drawn from the archives of the Palestine Exploration Fund provide a unique visual experience of the city and the manner of life of its inhabitants.  The book is structured around a map of the Old City, made in about 1897, which identifies the location and direction of each photograph, and includes summary biographies of the major photographers concerned. Beyond the River: Jordan in Early Photographs Ottoman Transjordan in early photographs - over w200 early images, many previously unpublished, capured throught the lens of treavellers visiting the region during the closing years of the Ottoman Empire and through to the foundation of the Hashemite Kingdom.  Meticulously researched by two prominent scholars in the field. The Survey of Western Palestine From 1872-1875 the Fund carried out the first accurate and detailed survey of Western Palestine, and from 1880-1884 published the resulting maps and a series of volumes with a detailed description of the country.  This monumental work has now been republished by Archive Editions. Introductory Essays to Accompany the Archive Editions facsimile of The Survey of Western Palestine These two studies, of the Fund's work in Jerusalem in 1867-1870 carried out by Capt. Charles Warren, and of the publication of the great map of Palestine and the accompanying memoirs, utilize the archival resources of the Fund itself as well as the expertise of the authors, and are a major contribution to the understanding and use of the original publications. Beneath the Church of the Holy Sepulchre The Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem rests on archaeological remains dating from the first occupation of the site in the Iron Age to the construction of the church in the reign of Constantine the Great.  This monograph consists of a series of studies of the archaeology of the site culminating in the construction of the church. The Survey of Palestine Under the British Mandate, 1920-1948 Under the British Mandate Government of Palestine a major survey project was established for the territory.  This work examines the foundation of this enterprise and the motivation of those who carried it out. Samaria-Sebaste II:  The Early Ivories This volume was the first volume of the final report of the British excavations at Samaria from 1931-35 to appear, and also the first report on the early ivory carvings discovered there.
