A century ago several Hellenistic painted tombs painted tombs were
discovered.. Hand-coloured copies of the paintings on photographic
prints, retouched to restore the damage to the originals, were published
in 1905. The original unretouched prints are here published for

The archaeological part of the work, by C.L. Woolley and T.E. Lawrence,
published in 1915 as PEF Annual III, is now republished
with additional material on the origins of the expedition and the views
