NOTES

Please read carefully before completing form.  Adherence to the procedures outlined in these notes is essential.

1. You may either TYPE your application on the form provided or download this form to your computer. Applicants must restrict the length of their application to that of the form provided; overlong applications will be penalised or rejected unread

2. In addition to university or similar qualifications, give a brief account of any training or experience relevant to the project, stating why you consider yourself competent to carry it out. List any relevant publications.

3. You MUST be a current member of teh PEF to apply for a PEF Grant.

4. Give a brief account of the project, stating whether it is part of a larger enterprise or an individual undertaking, and under whose auspices and direction it is being carried out. Is permission obtained? What is the scholarly importance of the work? If the application is for a travel grant, what is its relevance and value to your education and career?

5. If you are in charge of the entire project, give a brief but itemised break-down of the total budget. If your application relates to part only of a larger project, give the budget relevant to this. Remember to include, if relevant, the costs of visas, travel and health insurance, etc., which can be very high. Travel should be by the cheapest practical means.  Please obtain receipts for your expenditure.

6. If you are responsible for the final publication of the results of the project, state what plans exist for this.  All recipients of grants should note that they are required to send a short report of at least 500 words to the PEF Grants Manager on the work or travel accomplished, and to submit accounts, within two months of the completion of the project.

7. The applicant must contact their referees and request them to send the references directly to the Grants Manager at the PEF.  These references must arrive there before the closing date for applications (i.e.:  before 31st January).  It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that this has been carried out.  Referees should comment on the proposed project as well as the applicant.

7. Grants will be awarded in mid-March of each year, but will not normally be paid to the recipient until shortly before the money is required.
