Today, this site is not much more than a rise in the ground level. Tell Ta'yinat was particularly important in the Early Bronze Age, before Alalakh rose to prominence, and again, in the Iron Age following Alalakh's destruction at the end of the Late Bronze Age.

The Iron Age site was characterised by a series of citadels, comprising a bit-hilani, a palatial building based on a four room scheme and an attached temple. Inscriptions date these bit-hilani to the Neo-Assyrian period.

In another area of the site, a palatial Assyrian type building was excavated belonging to the 7th and 6th centuries BC.
